Taking Pleasure In Her Stones…

Psalm 102:14 – For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor to her dust.

What an amazing time we have had in the beautiful land of Jerusalem. To be so very close to the very places the Patriarchs of old walked, ran, sang, prophesied, laughed, healed and just did life. We have sailed the Sea Of Galilee, walked and worshiped at Mt Carmel, saw where the Apostle Peter lived and the Synagog where Jesus would of performed miracles on the Sabbath disrupting the life of Pharisee’s and bringing life to the crippled. We have walked in Nazareth, preached in Canaan where Jesus preformed His first miracle and turned the water into wine. We have stood at the Wailing Wall, watching the Rabbi’s of the land cry out to God rocking back and forth like a flickering candle. We have seen the empty tomb, walked at the Garden of Gethsemane, been to the Mt of olives and walked the Temple Mount where God’s beauty will shine forth; yet today it is a place of Great War and conflict as all the world watches this small piece of land.

I have prayed Ps 102 for 16 years right from the Kansas City House Of Prayer, every single Tuesday at 4:00pm and Thursday at 10:00am. I never understood this scripture until I stepped foot in this land for every place you step is stone or dust. Every house, every store, every staircase, every building is stone, a beautiful Jerusalem stone. Therefore to walk the land you will see this very verse come to life for every step you will find dust or stone.

Walking in the land of Israel brings the Bible to life in a whole new way. For when David writes, Ps 28:1 – To You I will cry, O Lord my Rock…..In Psalm 31:3 he writes ‘For You are my rock and my fortress, in Psalm 71:3 – Be my strong refuge to which I run continually: …..For You are my rock and my fortress’. From Exodus, 2 Samuel, Psalm, Isaiah, Habakkuk and finally Jesus telling the Apostle Peter, ‘ You are Peter and on this rock I will build My church’….. Also ‘In the cleft of the Rock’ takes on a whole new meaning when you look at and touch these great rocks from century’s past; and find shelter there, shade there, and protection there…’Song of Solomon – O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret place of the stairs, let me see your face, let me hear your voice.’ Its in these clefts that the quiet whispers, the softest of songs can be amplified as an echo through-out the valley, a natural amplification – where the voice of the singer is echo’d through-out the valley.

Rock, refuge, fortress have a whole new meaning – We walked underneath the old City and were able to see bedrock from the time of Abraham – this rock is unmoveable, it has stood generations upon generations and still is beautiful and it is Rock and it is still standing. Habakkuk calls God ‘ O Rock…are You not from everlasting? O Lord my God, my Holy One’.. When you walk through these caves and Hills you see stones and Bedrock from ancient times knowing that in the days when David was anointed king he may have looked at these same Rocks as he wrote many of the Psalms. Habakkuk may have been looking at these giant unmoveable rocks in his day as he cried out to The Lord. Jesus may have had the rock of Mt Moriah in His mind as He told Peter, ‘On this rock I will build My church’…For this rock stands. This rock is strong. This rock is a picture of the Everlasting strength of God in our lives. This Rock does not move. This Rock can be built upon. This rock is a fortress protecting us from danger….and on this Rock…..these stones I have found myself taking great pleasure. I shall always remember these giant stones, and in my heart say ‘This is what God looks like’. The Bedrock that is still strong, a foundation stone upholding a city. I can count of this stone to hold me up, to rest upon, to lean upon, to be a fortress, to be a place of safety. Yes, God – you are my everlasting Rock and I in a brand new way I also take great delight and pleasure in her stones.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

I hide myself in these strong rocks, in these clefts and I am safe. – I Samuel 22:2
